Which part are you

Cogs in a machine turn as the pulley pulls the screw. The screw turns the wheel, left, right. Right left. Energy is transformed. The bulb shines bright. Let there be light.

If one part fails to do its duty, the whole machine fails. Which part are you?

The grand machine of the human experience has many moving parts. One can be a screw or a nail, perhaps a bolt or a washer, a pulley or a spring, or even a light. Because we are talking about complex humans and their grand machine, there must be maintenance. Some people are not parts at all but, in fact, tools.

Whether you are a part or a tool, you have a function. You have a responsibility in the workings of the grand machine. The problem with this reality is that most people don’t believe they have a function. People are acting like nails when they were created to be screws. 

Free will is a chaotic gift in this sense. Yes, a screw can be hammered into its connector piece. But how painful is that for the screw? Its function is to swirl its way into place, not to be impounded. Although the result can be the same, the path to get there could have been easier if it were acting as a screw.

It is each person’s God given right to be who they choose. The moral of this story is that it is also each human being’s responsibility to do their duty for the sake of the grand machine. If you are a screw and choose to be a nail, a transformation must take place. In every way possible, the screw must change to effortlessly, functionally, and joyfully be impounded into its connector piece.

In nature, all things work in harmony to create a beautiful and sustainable environment for every being on the planet. The insects, animals, and plants have abilities and characteristics that are unique to their function. The beings of nature perform their duty without will. They simply eat, sleep, survive, and reproduce. They have no control over what happens. Their actions are an event within the domino effect that keeps the natural balance.

The same must be true for humans. They, too, are born with talents and characteristics specific to their function. They, too, must work together in creating a desirable human experience for the entire species. But unlike the beings in nature, humans have free will to reject the path that has been prepared for them. The most intelligent species on the globe, humans, can create what happens. Their actions affect everything and every being on the planet.

It's your choice to work your function or choose another. But you must do your duty no matter what.
