Love Is

Plato said attachment is the root cause of suffering. We are attached to people, places, things, and feelings. The Buddhists believe this world is suffering, and it is our attachment to it that causes our suffering. Vedanta teaches that attachment is a stream of thoughts toward beings, objects, and emotions. The longer the thought flows, the stronger the attachment. Wherever there is attachment, there is worry, anxiety, stress, and strain.

That is suffering

It’s easy to recognize attachment when using words like obsession and addiction. The love we claim to have for others is the most subtle variant of attachment. People think about their family and friends throughout the day. They worry, are stressed, and anxious over them at one point or another.

Attached and Suffering

Love is not a feeling. It’s not an emotion or a declaration. It’s an action. Selfless service. It’s not conditional of your family and your friends. It includes those that are not yours. Those whose perceptions you do not share deserve to be loved as equally to those who look like you. Human beings are the greatest species on earth. To be this powerful, there must be some sort of responsibility.

Who said with great power comes great responsibility?

When you leave the comfort of your own space and venture outside, you become other people's experience. It is your responsibility to make that experience favorable. There are billions of people in this world, and possibly thousands and more where you are. If you cross paths with someone, you're not asked to go out of your way.  But you are warned against malice. It costs nothing to be kind.

Love is Selfless Action

The goal is to be full within. Needing nothing from the world, only wanting to give to it. That is the nature of a human being. You are spiritual royalty. When you leave your private space and communicate with the world, you overflow with abundance. All who contact you are blessed. But when people choose to operate from emotion, the abundance turns to suffering. You now enter the world anxious about what could happen, worried about what has happened, and stressed over everything you contact. You yourself are suffering, therefore that is what you are emitting to the world around you. Know that you are loved, you are protected, you are never alone.

Get back to your true nature, love. And radiate abundance!
